Education

Holistic Education Initiative

Equibeing has designed a Holistic Education Initiative (HEI) to comprehensively develop students with Visual Impairment in the areas of skill development, sports, and Health and well-being.

EquiSpeak

Support the overall development of young individuals with visual impairment with an element of confidence building to speak up

Digital Literacy

Support the students with visual impairment to make sure that they can catch up with ever growing technology world by acquiring digital skills and thereby making them self manageable.

Health and Hygiene

Creating awareness of general health and hygiene practices to minimize health issues and ensure mental comfort for students.

EquiSport

Regular training sessions for students with visual impairments in inclusive sports can significantly enhance their skills. These sessions focus on adapting techniques to ensure accessibility and participation. Ultimately, they foster an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

Psycho Social

Ensuring the social well-being of students helps leverage their talents and capabilities for both personal and societal betterment.

Equitrain

Providing on-site teacher support programs/sessions to impart nuanced inclusive teaching practices in classrooms.

Annual Teachers Summit

Equitrain Teachers Summit is a two-day Teacher Professional Development (TPD) workshop for school teachers for students with visual impairment.

Continuous Teachers Professional Development(CTPD)

Systematically work with the teachers in the special school and provide continuous in service teacher professional development.

Health and Well-Being

Sports

Through this project, we aim to foster a culture of inclusivity in sports by collaborating with schools to promote existing sports, as well as exploring, creating, and adapting new sporting activities from around the world.

EquiFloat

EquiFloat is a 10 days swimming camp for children with disabilities with the aim of introducing them to water sports for enhancing their overall development. Our previous camps have been hugely successful with extraordinary feedback from the children, parents and teachers.

Inclusive Sports

Inclusive Sports is the practice of a sport between people with or without disabilities and it is played by making adaptations to suit the players. As a growing society it is important that we come together and play sports together in order to ensure awareness about inclusive sports and how small modifications to playing can enable persons with disabilities to come and play together.

Psycho Social Rehabilitation Initiatives

This project is dedicated to enhancing the mental health and overall well-being of individuals with disabilities, focusing on building their emotional resilience and social skills. By offering academic support and crisis intervention, it integrates mental wellness into their education, equipping students, teachers, and families with the tools necessary to manage day-to-day challenges effectively.

Community Based Rehabilitation

A holistic approach aimed at enhancing the mental health and overall well-being of individuals with disabilities within their local communities. This initiative focuses on empowering individuals by building emotional resilience and social skills through accessible support systems.

Institutional Based Rehabilitation

Aims to improve the mental health and well-being of individuals with disabilities within structured, facility-based settings. This approach focuses on providing comprehensive support, including academic assistance and crisis intervention, to foster emotional resilience and social skills.

EquiJoy

A psychosocial rehabilitation program designed by EquiBeing for persons with disabilities who may additionally have other complex intersectionalities.

Livelihood

EquiBeing is now spreading its wings into spaces of Skill Development towards Livelihood and Health and Wellbeing of PWDs. It aims to capacitate individuals with visual impairment with skills and knowledge to reduce the gaps and discrimination in the labour market and provide sustainable jobs, and market access for empowerment, stability, and long-term economic resilience.

To study the actual experiences of employees at workplaces, what is working well and what is not, when it comes to persons with disabilties.

Research

Action Research on the Impact of Sports on Children with Disabilities

An action research on the Impact of Sports on Children with Disabilities along with the Christ College- Psychology Department is underway at the Delhi Public School, Bangalore North. The objective of this research is to

Objective 1

Assess the impact of sports on children's physical, mental, social, and emotional health, and academic performance

Objective 2

Develop an inclusive sporting manual that can be presented to senior level boards on how to get an inclusive classroom to play sports.

Conferences and Events Participated In

This section highlights our involvement in conferences and events focused on disabilities and innovative inclusive practices. Our participation reflects our commitment to advancing inclusivity and sharing insights on creating more accessible and equitable societies.

Corporate Social Justice at Workplace: a case study of workforce with Visual Impairment/blindness

Dr. Ananthalakshmi Venkitaraman and Muhammed Suhaib presented a paper titled “Corporate Social Justice at Workplace: a case study of workforce with Visual Impairment/blindness” at the International Conference on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Creating Value-based Sustainable Organizations conducted by Department of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad and academy academy of value-based management a unit of ISOL Foundation. The paper emphasized the integration of the Corporate Social Justice framework into the workplace of corporates.

The International Conference on Comprehensive Education (ICEE)

EquiBeing steering catalyst Dr.Ananthalakshmi presented a paper at the International Conference on Comprehensive Education (ICEE). This conference empowers parents, teachers, and support networks to help individuals with disabilities navigate their post-high school journey. Attendees explored diverse strategies for fostering independence, career skills, social well-being, and more. Ananthalakshmi’s paper focused on disability and transition in education, the transition of students in education emphasizing a key focus on the coping of parenting with children’s transitions.

Social Perception Change

Theatre and Drama

Theatre and drama are powerful tools for changing how society views disability. By portraying diverse experiences and characters, they challenge stereotypes and build empathy, leading to greater awareness and inclusivity.

Streetplay

Through dynamic performances and engaging narratives, Streetplay illuminates diverse perspectives, driving greater awareness and inclusivity within the community. This innovative approach not only entertains but also educates, paving the way for a more understanding and equitable society.

Corporate Drama Production

This innovative initiative focuses on transforming societal perceptions of disability through the powerful medium of drama. By crafting narratives that feature diverse experiences and characters, the production challenges long-held stereotypes and fosters a deeper understanding of disability.

I Connect

An orientation program focusing on inclusive sports as a vehicle for social perception change.
